Last post was about passion…passion for what you do always.  It generated quite a few comments, mostly spam.  I won’t share those with you.  Luckily, in addition to the spam, I heard from several people who wondered about exhibiting strong emotions in a business context…fear of alienating someone, I think.

It never occurred to me that anyone would find the exhibition of passion for what you do in any way anything other than engaging.  It is so rare to find someone who absolutely is consumed with passion for their work, which is a sad comment on the state of work these days.

Of course this does leave the field wide open for those of you with this passion…and the willingness to show it.  So I suppose my answer to the question above is that you should go for it.  Show people you love what you do.  If they find this somehow off-putting…they really aren’t people you want as clients or customers anyway.

And the title about the Dalai Lama, well, I just happened to see this quote in an airline magazine a few days ago.  It’s not about passion but somehow it just seems to be appropriate to mention here:  “Generally speaking, if a human being never shows anger, then I think something’s wrong.  He’s not right in the brain.”

Blandness is just so boring.  And who really wants to work with boring people?

  1. Passion should be the reason more people go to work, engage other folks, live. Do you not feel passion about something? I sure hope so – this is not for you Steve but others.
I find that if there were more folks with a real passion for what they were doing the world would be a far better place.
