To my great disappointment, my visit to Cortes Island is over. Luckily, I left with my mind pulsing with new ideas and energy. A week mostly cut off from everything electronic and immediate but filled with random conversations and discussion on a variety of topics with experts in their field has a way of expanding your worldview and leading you down new paths.
It takes paying attention to new levels as you realize there are nuggets of intense wisdom hidden in every story. And the most wonderful thing is how by participating and sharing your own ideas and thoughts you come to incorporate the wisdom of others into your own story.
On the long drive and three ferry rides that over twelve hours get me from Cortes Island to Whidbey Island where I now sit, I ponder my experience. I notice how my thinking has changed on some topics, how I have new stories to explain certain things, how I have participated in energetic disputes that always lead to a better idea than any side started with, and how somehow every disparate and seemingly unconnected idea adds to the ultimate result.
My yearly visit to this gathering is always an expanding and expansive time. I return with my mind enlarged and my body tired.
But most importantly, I return better equipped to guide my clients forward and help them build better paths. The brain crud that accumulates from sameness and sycophancy is disappated and clarity returns. Better and expanded thinking occur…and with better thinking comes better results.
And who out there isn’t interested in better results?
